The Division of Education at LeMoyne-Owen College is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) formerly the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Programs at LOC are accredited at the Initial Licensure level. CAEP through its accreditation process determines Divisions of Education, Colleges of Education, and Schools which meet extensive and rigorous national standards within each academic program in preparing teacher candidates for the classroom. Through an evidence-based process teacher candidates demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and disposition necessary to make a positive impact on students within our P-12 classrooms. LeMoyne-Owen College’s CAEP accreditation term is in effect until Fall 2028.
The Division of Education conducts and coordinates programs for the preparation of teacher candidates at the initial level. Initial program preparation areas include: Early Childhood Education, K-6 Interdisciplinary Studies, Middle Grades and Secondary Licensure Programs, Special Education (K-12), and Visual Arts Licensure (K-12). The undergraduate majors meet all College requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree and students completing the licensure programs are eligible for teacher license issued by the Tennessee Department of Education. All programs within the Division are designed to provide academic rigor and advanced level studies which prepare teacher candidates for further studies in the field of education.
